| This
is the first of the many dynamic dunes holes, where
looks can be deceiving.
Not only is the entire hole narrow, but each
shot must be thought out for placement.
A good tee shot should carry the left fairway
bunkers. Anything left of this group of four is
into the woods; anything too far right is into
a steep sand dune.
The second shot is between the kiawe trees on
the left and a huge chasm to the right. The green
will be tempting for the long hitters in two,
but the face of the slope for the perched green
is dominated by deep sod-revetted bunkers.
The pin placement may be deceiving, as the green
surface is hidden from view, and a false tongue
on the putting surface can be deceiving. An approach
hit on this portion may roll down the slope and
well back into the fairway. Once the green has
been secured, the putting is relatively flat,
allowing for a simple two-putt.
